EXCERPTS – First Selectman Rob Mallozzi and other Fairfield County officials have come out strongly against a part of HB 6851, which would create a Transit Corridor Development Authority. In its original language, the bill would have given this new state entity control over all land within half a mile of all Metro-North transit stations without having to follow local zoning laws. A half-mile around the New Canaan Metro-North station comprises of almost all of downtown.

In its latest form, the proposed 11-member authority, which is part of Gov. Malloy’s Let’s Go CT initiative, would now need to cooperate with local zoning, but retains its control over state owned land.
